Golf icon Tiger Woods has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence (DUI) after a frightening rollover crash near his Florida home, authorities said Friday.
According to local law enforcement, the 50-year-old was involved in a two-vehicle accident on a narrow road in Jupiter Island. Investigators say Woods was attempting to pass a truck towing a trailer when his vehicle struck it and flipped over.
Despite the severity of the crash, Woods was able to get out of the overturned SUV on his own. Officials reported that he was conscious at the scene, and no serious injuries were reported for either Woods or the other driver involved.
Officers on site noted signs of possible impairment and took Woods into custody. He now faces charges that include DUI, property damage, and refusal to submit to a required test under Florida law. While initial testing reportedly showed no alcohol in his system, authorities believe the impairment may have been linked to medication or other substances.
Woods was held for several hours before being released on bail later that day.
This incident adds to a complicated history of driving-related issues for the golf legend. In 2017, he was arrested in a separate DUI case involving prescription drugs, and in 2021, he survived a serious car crash that left him with multiple leg injuries and required extensive recovery.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest golfers in history, Woods has won 15 major championships and had only recently returned to competitive play. The latest incident now raises questions about his immediate future in the sport, including whether he will compete in upcoming tournaments.
